Municipal Finance Institute open for registration, now through Nov. 30

Oct 19, 2022

The job of a city finance director has never been more complicated. High interest rates, record inflation, supply chain snarls, and other ongoing challenges, combined with changes in work and historic funding packages, have added new complexities to an already complex job.

The Municipal Finance Institute — scheduled for Dec. 7-8 in Monterey — equips city finance directors with the tools needed to respond to these challenges, conduct routine business, and build better teams. The 2022 Institute will cover a range of topics, including the state pension fund, related legal and policy developments, budget management, and cybersecurity.

City officials will also have numerous opportunities to learn from one another, including during a peer advice panel. Additional information is available in the “schedule” section of the Institute webpage.

Registration and hotel information

Registration for the Municipal Finance Institute starts at $450 for city officials from any League of California Cities member city. Registration includes admission to all educational sessions, the Wednesday lunch and evening reception, the Thursday breakfast and lunch, and access to all program materials. The deadline to register is Nov. 30. Afterward, officials must register on-site.

This year, the Institute will be held at the Hyatt Regency Monterey at 1 Old Golf Course in Monterey, California. Centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula, the hotel is just two miles from the Monterey Regional Airport and offers complimentary self-parking for hotel guests.

A limited number of hotel rooms are available at a reduced rate for seminar attendees. The deadline to reserve a discounted hotel room is Nov. 7, 2022. Discounted rooms often sell out before the deadline, so register early! A limited number of market-rate hotel rooms may be available after Nov. 7. Call the Hyatt Regency Monterey at (831) 372-1234 to learn more.
