Cal Cities weekly COVID-19 update: Feb. 11-17

Feb 17, 2021

On Feb. 12, the U.S House Oversight and Reform Committee passed a legislative proposal that includes $350 billion in emergency relief for state and local governments.

View the tweet Cal Cities issued in response to the passage by the Government and Oversight Committee. Thank you to all who responded to the Cal Cities action alert and joined the National League of Cities’ letter expressing support of the aid prior to the Committee’s markup and vote. The bill text will now be delivered to the House Budget Committee to be assembled into the broader emergency aid package, and then will go to the House floor for a vote. Cal Cities will be issuing additional action alerts as this proposal continues to move through the process.

On Feb. 16, Cal Cities hosted a briefing for members on the $350 billion package, which featured an update from NLC Senior Executive and Director of Federal Advocacy Irma Esparza Diggs. Missed the briefing? Listen here to the recording. The slides from the briefing, and Congressional Research Services’ formula updates, are also available.
