League of California Cities Applauds Assembly Passage of Senate Bill 5

Sacramento – The League of California Cities today applauded the state Assembly for passing Senate Bill 5 (Beall, McGuire, Portantino). SB 5 establishes a state partnership with cities and counties to provide an ongoing, sustainable and accountable source of funding that will help build affordable housing to address the housing shortage and homeless crisis.

“We want to thank all members of the Assembly for passing SB 5. This important bill will go a long way toward increasing the stock of affordable housing and helping those that are homeless,” said Carolyn Coleman, executive director of the League of California Cities. “We simply do not have enough affordable housing available to low- and very low-income households in our state. We need more supply and to do that, we need ongoing and sustainable funding. SB 5 establishes a partnership between the state and local governments and will make a dent in this crisis. We now urge the Senate to pass the bill on concurrence.”

Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
