Annual conference sessions and opening keynote speaker revealed

Register by July 26 to get $50 off registration

The League of California Cities Annual Conference and Expo is just two months away! Join Cal Cities and over 1,700 California city officials (and counting) in Sacramento for three days of learning, collaboration, and celebration.

This year’s breakout sessions will cover a variety of city-specific issues and perspectives. Whether you’re new to city government or need insights on emerging trends, the annual conference has something for everyone.

City managers can find new ways to solve big city problems in small towns, form strong partnerships with their city councils, and build more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations.

Public works directors can learn how to increase collaboration between local governments and utilities as well as better weather natural disasters. Meanwhile, finance directors can get a look at California’s economic future from statewide experts or learn how to budget for both impact and economic uncertainty.

Elected officials and city staff of all tenures can discover how to create accountability in police departments, navigate new state housing laws, when to use artificial intelligence tools, and which wildfire mitigations to prioritize.

City attorneys and city clerks can receive continuing education credits during the conference. On Sept. 20, city clerks can attend a credit-earning workshop focused on the 2024 elections. The session will cover trends, related legislation, and practical tips for navigating election season. Attorneys can get Minimum Continuing Legal Education credits during select sessions on legal issues impacting California cities.

Attending the annual conference — scheduled for Sept. 20-22 — can spur important ideas and discussions long after you return home. Take a moment with your team to review the newly released educational sessions. Then, divide them among your group to maximize the conference’s full educational benefits.

Sessions may change, so check the “schedule at a glance” section of the Annual Conference and Expo webpage for the latest information.

Learn how to create civility and gather consensus with Wednesday’s keynote speaker

Social Prosperity Partners helps cities throughout the nation improve their planning and community engagement processes, with a focus on civility and consensus-building. Lehrman began his career as a federal lobbyist before transitioning into the arts and culture sector and later, audience development and governance.
