The full schedule and session descriptions are available in the “schedule” section of the Summit webpage.

The City Leaders Summit is not just an opportunity to advocate for cities’ top legislative priorities at the state Capitol. It is also a chance to meet with county partners and sharpen leadership skills through timely educational sessions.

On April 12, the League of California Cities will hold a special joint convening with the California State Association of Counties on preventing and reducing homelessness. Attendees will hear from both state lawmakers and local leaders as they share their perspectives on this challenging topic, as well as the roles, responsibilities, and resources needed to address this crisis.

The first day also includes a full day of lobbying and briefings on high priority legislative issues, followed by an evening reception hosted by Cal Cities Partners.

April 13 kicks off with keynote speaker Tracy Miller, a former prosecutor with over 25 years of legal experience. Miller was the highest-ranking woman in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the sixth-largest district attorney’s office in the nation. She led the office’s daily operations, including supervising 155 attorneys and operating a $140 million budget.

Miller helps leaders strengthen their interpersonal skills, retain and motivate employees, engage in healthy conflict, set expectations, and increase morale. Miller will coach city officials on how they can increase trust, decrease divisions, and change perceptions by improving their communication skills.

Closing out the summit on April 14 is Scott Lesnick, an author, trainer, and speaker who motivates audiences with powerful, entertaining messages and interactive sessions. Lesnick has spent 24 award-winning years in sales and management at a Berkshire Hathaway Fortune 500 company. He earned a Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association — a distinction given to roughly 17% of its members worldwide

Drawing on his own fascinating life story, Lesnick will discuss how city leaders can successfully navigate change, persevere in the face of adversity, and overcome obstacles to make a big difference in residents’ lives.

Thursday and Friday will also feature several educational sessions on need-to-know topics, including the Surplus Land Act, the future of Homekey, inclusionary housing, fentanyl, organized retail crime, emergency medical services, and more.

The full schedule and session descriptions are available in the “schedule” section of the Summit webpage.
