Guide to Local Recovery Update: March 1

Mar 1, 2023

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced anticipated funding dates for a slew of grant programs and the California Energy Commission released new tools to help stakeholders prepare for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program. The Local Infrastructure Hub is also holding webinars on electric vehicles, energy conservation, and street safety.

Transportation Department releases dates for key grant programs

The U.S. Department of Transportation updated its list of key anticipated notices of funding earlier this month. The list includes programs from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and adjacent programs. Many of the programs were highlighted in Guide to Local Recovery, including the Low or No Emission Vehicle, PROTECT, Safe Streets and Roads for All, Reconnecting Communities, Bridge Investment Program, and SMART grant programs.

Electric vehicle charging resources

The California Energy Commission released an interactive map and matchmaker tool to help stakeholders prepare for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.

The map displays all the eligible corridor groups for projects in the first round of the formula program. It also includes locations of existing chargers and disadvantaged or low-income communities. The map can be downloaded for additional analysis. The matchmaker tool connects site hosts with prospective applicants to facilitate partnerships for the installation of new charging infrastructure.

The League of California Cities outlined best practices, resources, and related regulations for electric vehicle charging in a recent webinar. The National League of Cities also released an overview of a related grant program and best practices.

Local Infrastructure Hub events

The Local Infrastructure Hub — a partnership between several local government associations — announced a slate of recovery webinars focused on electric vehicles, energy conservation, and street safety.

On March 15, early adopters of electric buses will provide an inside look at their agencies' transition. Panelists will share insight about procurement, workforce, and operational challenges, as well as their advice for securing funding through the Federal Transit Administration’s Low or No Emission Vehicle program. Details for the remaining webinars have yet to be announced.
