City manager award nominations due Nov. 20

The Cal Cities City Managers Department is accepting nominations for three awards until Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. The awards will be presented at the 2027 City Managers Conference.

The John H. Nail Award recognizes one outstanding municipal assistant (regardless of position title) and one city manager who contributed significantly to their city government and the advancement of their community during the previous 12 months.

The Wes McClure Award of Distinction honors one city manager’s outstanding service, leadership, ethics, expertise, and innovation. Nominations for this award must be submitted by one of Cal Cities’ city manager area groups.

The Award for the Advancement of Diverse Communities recognizes a city manager or assistant city manager’s successful efforts to advance diversity within their community and workplace by developing and implementing effective programs, policies, and/or practices. Nominations for this award may be submitted by elected or appointed city officials.

Scholarship opportunities for graduate students who want to attend the 2027 City Managers conference are also available. Scholarship applications are due Friday, Nov. 20.
