State leaders deliver on homelessness and housing in final budget agreement

Sacramento — Following the Legislature’s and Gov. Gavin Newsom’s announcement of a FY 2026-27 State Budget agreement, League of California Cities Executive Director and CEO Carolyn Coleman issued the following statement:

“At a time of tough budget choices for cities and the state alike, Cal Cities appreciates the Legislature and Governor's investments in housing and homelessness, and their commitment to ensuring every Californian has a place to call home.

Cities are working every day to connect people experiencing homelessness with housing and services. We appreciate the $900 million for the Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) program, which recognizes this important work and helps build on the progress already underway. The $700 million for affordable housing is an equally critical investment that will help cities and the state deliver on our shared housing goals.

More work remains to preserve vital Cap-and-Invest dollars for local priorities. As trailer bill negotiations continue, Cal Cities looks forward to working with the Legislature and Governor to protect investments in clean infrastructure, affordable housing, wildfire resilience, and climate adaptation.”

Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
