Leaders across California celebrate city services during California Cities Week

Sacramento — California cities throughout the state and lawmakers at the state Capitol are coming together to celebrate California Cities Week, a weeklong recognition honoring California’s 483 cities and the dedicated people who serve them.
Assembly Member Blanca Pacheco, a former mayor of Downey, authored ACR 143 to designate April 19-25 as California Cities Week. The Assembly is expected to vote on the resolution on Thursday morning, April 23.
“As a former council member and mayor, I’ve seen firsthand how cities deliver essential services and respond to the needs of their communities every day,” said Assembly Member Blanca Pacheco (D-Downey). “I authored ACR 143 to recognize the vital role that cities play and the local leaders who work to keep our communities strong.”
From public safety to water, roads, and parks — California Cities Week is a time to highlight the impact of local government and the ways our cities make life better for all who call California home.
“Cities are at the center of daily life in California and serve as the connection between residents and public service — fostering trust in government,” said League of California Cities President and El Cerrito Mayor Gabe Quinto. "This California Cities Week, we celebrate the vital services cities provide and recognize the dedicated leaders and staff who strengthen and support our communities.”
In recognition of the week, 11 state lawmakers with roots in local government shared video testimonials highlighting the value of cities and local advocacy, while city leaders from throughout the state showcased how cities serve their residents every day.
Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
