Attendees at this year’s City Clerks New Law and Elections Seminar will hear from three powerhouse keynote speakers about work-life balance, workplace culture, and navigating public office. Held in November, the seminar helps clerks of all tenures respond to emerging challenges and conduct routine business.

The seminar will kick off on Nov. 12 with a keynote address from Seth Winterhalter on the realities of work-life balance. Winterhalter helps cities navigate leadership challenges and hosts The HaltingWinter Podcast, where municipal leaders have meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing local governments.

On Thursday, attendees will get a new law and elections update after hearing from California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., during a fireside chat. A former assembly member and professor, Dr. Weber has fought to secure and expand civil rights for all Californians.

Andy Masters will wrap up the conference on Friday with a fun and engaging look at how leadership is depicted in the media and how clerks can improve their city’s work culture. Masters is an award-winning author and international speaker who focuses on empowering government leaders and public servants.

This year's seminar will cover a range of topics, including election security, legal publication requirements, prohibited campaign activity, the California Public Records Act’s “catch-all” exemption, and administrative records.
