League Provides Promising and Significant Transportation Funding Scenarios during SB 1 Informational Hearing
Mar 3, 2019
Rony Berdugo, League legislative representative, shared results from the 2018 Local Streets and Roads Needs Assessment during the hearing, which demonstrates the immense impact of SB 1 over the next 10 years. Some of the major benefits of SB 1 include:
It’s been less than a year since there’s been any level of certainty that the funding from SB 1 will actually materialize and already more than 1,000 local transportation projects have been completed during a partial fiscal year's worth of funding. Cities and counties are planning for thousands of additional projects and given the massive backlog that continues to exceed $50 billion, there cannot be any additional delays to fund these transportation improvements.

- An $18 billion reduction in the unmet funding needs for local streets and roads;
- Stabilizing statewide average pavement conditions at a score of 64 on a scale of zero (failed) to 100 (excellent); and
- Bringing up two-thirds of the local network into a state of good repair (a score of 70 or above on the pavement condition index (PCI)).
