Cal Cities releases more climate bond resources for cities
By Kristine Guerrero, director of public affairs
Cal Cities has developed a slide deck and sample city resolution for cities that want to support the Safe Drinking Water, Wildlife Prevention, Drought Preparedness, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024. Also known as Prop. 4, the $10 billion climate bond is one of 10 statewide measures voters can weigh in on this November
One of Cal Cities’ top advocacy priorities this year is to pursue funding strategies that help cities improve community infrastructure resiliency. To that end, Cal Cities pushed for the climate bond to move forward in the Legislature this year — with funding carved out for major city priorities.
The Cal Cities Board adopted a support position on the measure in July after the Legislature qualified it for the November ballot. Board members noted that Prop. 4 would help communities avoid and recover from the impacts of wildfire, flood, drought, extreme heat, or other climate-related events, as well as restore and protect natural systems.
Cal Cities has also released a guide on the eight funding chapters in Prop 4. Cities can use the guide to navigate the various programs that may be available to them.
Cal Cities is hosting an informational webinar about Prop. 4 on Oct. 8 at 11:00 a.m. For more details and a copy of the sample resolution, contact your regional public affairs manager.
