League of California Cities Supports the Parks and Water Bond

Sacramento — The League of California Cities® Board of Directors in December voted to support the California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal, and Outdoor Access Act of 2018 that is slated for the June 2018 statewide ballot. If voters approve the Parks and Water Bond, cities will be eligible for at least $1.69 billion for park improvements, water infrastructure and projects, and climate programs. The Legislature placed this $4 billion bond on the ballot through the passage of League-supported SB 5 (de León) last September.
“Voters have an opportunity to invest in real programs that will make a difference for the quality of life of California city residents with the Parks and Water Bond. These funds will enable every city in our state to improve their parks, creating spaces that welcome children and families to enjoy the best of California neighborhoods, said League President Rich Garbarino. “The water funding component of this measure is also vitally important to California cities because these dollars will go towards water sustainability in times of flooding and drought.”
The League is supporting several ballot measures in 2018 that invest in communities to improve neighborhoods and the quality of life for California city residents.
Every city in the state will benefit from the passage of this bond through a per capita allocation of at least $200,000 for their parks, and many will be eligible for a $725 million program for safe neighborhood parks. Cities will also be able to apply for many other grants to fund water, local parks and coastal and climate resiliency projects.
