Cal Cities seeking proposals for 2022 Planning Commissioners Academy

Oct 6, 2021

Member-driven and member-led programming is a cornerstone of Cal Cities’ educational activities. Over 95% of all programming comes directly from our open calls for proposals! Submit your proposal by November 1.

The League of California Cities is seeking session proposals for its upcoming Planning Commissioners Academy, taking place March 16-18 at the Marriott San Ramon. The conference offers a fundamentals track for new commissioners — and those wanting a refresher course — as well as an emerging issues track, which includes innovative solutions for current issues facing California city planners and planning commissioners.

Cal Cities is seeking thorough, thoughtful, and complete proposals that tell how your session can help planning commissioners improve their communities, leadership abilities, and knowledge within their roles. Proposals should provide a takeaway for attendees, such as best practices for a common problem or a solution to an emerging issue. Non-commercial submissions from any individual, group, business, or organization on any topic are welcome. Topics to consider include:

  • Emerging issues and cutting-edge solutions for challenges that California cities face
  • Leadership skills, relationship management, and personal development
  • California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
  • General Plans
  • Planning meeting management
  • City finances
  • Affordable housing
  • Homelessness
  • Emergency response and preparedness
  • Technology
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Workplace culture
  • COVID-19 related changes

Sessions may not include sales, commercialism, or product promotion of any kind. Proposals must be submitted through Cal Cities’ online session proposal form. The deadline to submit session proposals is Monday, November 1.
