League of California Cities Applauds Passage of Senate Bill 5 by Assembly Appropriations Committee

Sacramento – The League of California Cities today thanked members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee for passing Senate Bill 5 (Beall, McGuire, Portantino). SB 5 establishes a state partnership with cities and counties to provide an ongoing, sustainable and accountable source of funding that will help build affordable housing to address the housing shortage and homeless crisis. The bill next goes to the Assembly floor.

“We urge all Assembly members to pass this important legislation to help fund affordable housing to address homelessness and the shortage of housing for low-income families,” said Carolyn Coleman, executive director of the League of California Cities. “In communities throughout the state, cities simply do not have enough affordable housing available to low- and very- low income households. We need more supply and to do that, we need ongoing and sustainable funding. SB 5 creates a much-needed partnership between the state and local governments. We will work with the broad coalition of labor, local government, business, housing and other advocates to encourage the Assembly to pass this vital legislation.”
