Apr 6, 2022

The League of California Cities was honored on April 6, earning the distinction of “Webby Honoree” as part of the 26th Annual Webby Awards, organized by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The Cal Cities’ website, launched in July 2021, earned recognition in the Best Association Websites and Mobile Sites category, ranking in the top 20% of the thousands of projects submitted in this year’s competition.

“Honorees like Cal Cities are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, President of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from more than 14,300 entries we received this year.”

The Webby Awards Honoree recognition underscores the success of the Cal Cities website redesign and the goals set forth to provide relevant and dynamic content on advocacy, policy issues, legislative developments, and cutting-edge professional programs in an accessible and effective manner.

With the Cal Cities mission at its core, the website is designed to make it easier for city officials and the public to find the valuable resources and information that Cal Cities generates and curates for city leaders.

“Our team worked hard to develop a redesigned website that would engage visitors with thoughtful navigation, visual design, and content and serve as an invaluable resource for city officials,” said Cal Cities Director of Communications and Marketing Jill Oviatt. “We are delighted and incredibly honored to be the only state association recognized among a number of national organizations.”

The Cal Cities website is a dynamic tool, carefully structured to be user-friendly and intuitive so that visitors can easily access resources that enable them to advocate, learn, and engage. The site will continue to evolve in tandem with the needs of city officials and serve as a platform to amplify the voices of cities throughout the state.

The new Cal Cities website was part of a larger rebrand initiative, which included a new logo, color palette, and brand narrative representing the unique characteristics and common interests of the state’s 482 cities. The rebrand initiative, which has already received a gold award for “Best Rebrand” by the Association Trends 2022 TRENDY Awards, was a key component of the Cal Cities 2018-2021 Strategic Growth Plan.
