Cal Cities wins Gold Trendy Award for “Best Rebrand” of 2022

Mar 16, 2022

The League of California Cities was honored with a gold award for “Best Rebrand” during the Association Trends 2022 TRENDY Awards on March 11 in Washington, D.C. The TRENDY Awards is an annual competition, recognizing the best communications and marketing pieces in the association and nonprofit community during the previous year. Honorees in each category were selected from approximately 150 entries from across the country.

“Developing a new brand identity for a 124-year-old organization was a challenge, and we are thrilled to be recognized by our peers for the hard work and commitment that went into that effort,” said Cal Cities Director of Communications and Marketing Jill Oviatt. “It was important to reflect the strength and the diversity of California’s 482 cities in our new look and logo and we sought out input from our entire membership, board, and staff to ensure we got it right.”

This top honor underlines the success of the Cal Cities rebrand, launched in July of 2021 with a new logo, brand narrative, diverse color palette, and website representing the unique characteristics and common interests of the state’s 482 cities. The new moniker, “Cal Cities,” was also developed during the rebrand.

Cal Cities works to amplify the voices of cities throughout the state to enhance the quality of life for all Californians. The award-winning Cal Cities logo reflects the diverse elements that make up the mosaic of California cities, that come together as a unified block to advocate for the common interests of all municipalities so that they may govern locally and create thriving communities.

The rebrand initiative was embedded in one of the six goals outlined in the Cal Cities 2018-2021 Strategic Growth Plan — to raise the visibility of Cal Cities as the preeminent voice for cities in the state.

The gold award affirms the work Cal Cities does to keep pace with a changing world and our evolving cities, strengthening our position as the leading voice for California cities through advocacy and education.
