Cities’ top priorities included in proposed 2022-23 State Budget investments

Sacramento – Following Gov. Gavin Newsom’s introduction of the 2022-23 State Budget, League of California Cities Executive Director and CEO Carolyn Coleman issued the statement below:
“The Governor’s proposed 2022-23 State Budget includes significant investments in the supply and affordability of housing, critical infrastructure, homelessness, and disaster preparedness — challenges that California cities identified as their top priorities this year.
“The budget proposal includes much-needed new investments for other local priorities, including helping cities’ ongoing efforts to protect the health of their residents, address climate change, combat organized retail theft, and support workforce development.
“The proposal makes good on last year’s promises by the state to continue investing in housing production, as well as housing coupled with mental health services for those experiencing homelessness. These proposed investments are a critical down payment by the state on the long-term funding needed to solve a decades-in-the-making crisis.
“Cal Cities looks forward to working closely with the Administration and Legislature in the coming months to ensure a final budget package prioritizes resources that will help our cities and residents recover and thrive.”
