Melanie Perron Named Deputy Executive Director, Advocacy and Public Affairs of the League of California Cities

SACRAMENTO — The League of California Cities today announced that Melanie Perron has joined the League as the new Deputy Executive Director, Advocacy and Public Affairs. Perron comes to the League from the California State Transportation Agency where she served as Deputy Secretary for Legislation since 2018. In her new role, Perron will oversee the League’s state and federal advocacy programs, policy development, the public affairs program, and will provide leadership to a robust and talented team of legislative and public affairs staff.

“On behalf of the League of California Cities board and staff, I want to welcome Melanie to the League,” said League of California Cities Executive Director Carolyn Coleman. “Melanie has a proven track record of building relationships and consensus and being a strong champion for those she represents in the legislative process. We look forward to her collaborative style and expertise to continue the excellent work of our legislative and public affairs teams in what promises to be an exciting and important year ahead.”

Perron brings to the League experience across party lines, as a veteran of Governors Gavin Newsom, Jerry Brown and Arnold Schwarzenegger administrations. From 2013 to 2018, she was the Assistant Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs for Caltrans. Prior to that, she was the Legislative Manager at the California Department of Conservation from 2010 to 2013, and Legislative Coordinator at the California Department of General Services from 2008 to 2010.

Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
