League of California Cities Responds to Gov. Gavin Newsom's May Revise

Sacramento – Today, the League of California Cities issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s May Revise. The following statement can be attributed to Carolyn Coleman, executive director of the League of California Cities.

“We join Gov. Gavin Newsom in his dedication to addressing California’s housing affordability and homelessness crisis. Since the beginning of the year, the Governor and his Administration have acted as true partners, traveling the state to listen to locals, understanding local concerns, while also consistently pushing policies to increase housing supply and address homelessness.

“In particular, we want to thank the Governor for expanding resources to help local governments address homelessness, invest in the infrastructure needed to support housing and update local plans to accommodate more housing.

“Local officials and cities understand we have a significant role to play in the planning, zoning and approving of new housing. While we continue to have concerns about specific proposals to raid local transportation funds that voters have repeatedly dedicated to local communities, we’ll work with the Administration and legislators on collaborative approaches to address this significant quality of life issue for our residents.”

Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
