Policy Areas and Committees
City officials actively debate, shape, and steer Cal Cities’ policy-making process and advocacy efforts. Approximately 50 city officials serve on each of the Cal Cities’ seven policy committees, which meet up to four times annually — typically in January, March, June, and at the Annual Conference. Committee recommendations are forwarded to the board of directors for final review and approval.
Existing Policy and Guiding Principles
The Summary of Existing Policy and Guiding Principles publication helps determine if Cal Cities will support or oppose new legislation. Updated biennially, the 2020 edition was developed with the assistance of the seven standing policy committees and the board of directors. The document may also be used as a guide by cities when responding to legislation. Read the Summary of Existing Policy and Guiding Principles.
