Call for session proposals for the Municipal Finance Institute and Fire Chiefs Leadership Seminar

Cal Cities has opened its call for session proposals for two educational conferences scheduled this fall.

 
Beginning in 2021, the Municipal Finance Institute will become part of the League of California Cities Annual Conference & Expo, scheduled Sept. 22-24 in Sacramento. The two-day educational and networking conference brings together roughly 200 leaders in the California city finance community.

The institute is geared towards finance officers, city treasurers, city managers, and all city staff who assist these professionals in their stewardship of public resources. 

Cal Cities is currently soliciting session proposals for the conference, suggested topics include:
  • Pension reform and updates
  • COVID-19 and finance-related topics
  • Developing policies for finance departments
  • Budget cycle process for new finance/municipality personnel
  • Understanding OPEB
  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Exploring additional funding sources for capital projects and infrastructure 
Cal Cities encourages individuals with an interest in submitting proposals to consult the materials from previous years for ideas on topics of interest. Proposals are due by March 31, 2021. Submissions, non-commercial in nature, from any individual, group, business, or organization, on any topic are welcome. Sessions may not include sales, commercialism, or product promotion of any kind.

The Fire Chiefs Leadership Seminar will bring together 150 California fire service leaders on Dec. 8-9 for a two-day educational and networking event. Currently, Cal Cities is soliciting session proposals on timely topics of importance to fire service professionals including but not limited to; fire chiefs, chief officers, and union leadership.
Suggested topics include:
  • Leadership
  • New fire chiefs
  • Conflict resolution and accountability
  • Labor management relations
  • Succession planning
  • Emergency response
  • COVID-19-related challenges
  • Late breaking changes in EMS 
The conference planning committee is seeking thorough, thoughtful, and complete proposals that describe how the proposed session would help fire service leaders improve their communities, leadership abilities, and knowledge within the fire service. Proposals are due by July 16, 2021.
